The Zodiac cable is a further development of the Aries cable, (which has been discontinued) the cable is made from a mixture of fine silver and silver plated copper wires. However, there are several leaders in the Zodiac and the thickness of the individual wires are also differently, like corrosion-protection of the threads is a new development.
The Zodiac cable are made of threads which are individually coated with a cotton sleve that insulates against short circuits between individual leaders. These threads are impregnated with a heated oil, that after cooling, becomes gelatinous as it does not run out of the cotton again. The oil-soaked threads will be pulled in a heat shrink hose that are crimped around the threads so that the oil settles around the silver and copper wires thus preventing corrosion. The crimped hose comes into a silicone tube, filled with a mineral oil-based gel that is mixed with microscopic iron particles. This screen reduces the radiation of noise and vibration.

The cable was developed from a theory about avoiding plastic, Teflon and similar products direct on the wires, and still make it resistant to corrosion. After having made the first copies that were incredibly cumbersome and time consuming to make, and was not durable enough to use, and leaked oil, and so the idea was rejected and Experiments were made with other types of screening. It has been shown that none of the tested cables were able to get near the first tests with gel / iron particles. It is simply more calm and much better detail with this construction. Therefore, the idea was resumed and the cable was rebuilt in its present form.
